L & T Infotech: Like TCS, this company too has the backing of an existing, successful and respected company in India, Larsen and Toubro, an Engineering and Construction major. The focus areas of L & T Infotech are Application Maintenance as well as Application Development, ERP-II implementations and Integration of systems within and across enterprises. This will be a company to watch out for and has facilities in Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore and the number of employees is expected to touch 9,000 by end 2006. It hopes to double its revenue to around US$ 350 – 400 million by 2008.

Work and Bench

Bench is less compared to other companies. Most of the guys from my batch were put on testing. Very few got into development projects that too on support. Not a very good company their training is good. Big companies train people through their own employees but at l&t you get specialized people for training who are paid good money by the company.

Training

It would be good if you know programming fundamentals (in C), RDBMS concepts, MS SQL Server 2000. Your training will be in Millennium Business park office that’s near VASHI office. The training is excellent, but study carefully, because those who fail in any subjects for a particular number of time (the HR will decide the number can be 2 or more) will be dismissed from job so be bit careful.

There is a 2 day team building training at the L&T MDC center at Lonavla, which almost every individual joining L&T undergoes the ambience there is captivating with loads of fun the best part is getting paid for all of that!!

Salary

Salary as per now is 2.2 during training and 2.93 after one year (for latest salary check out http://www.jobsamiksha.com/resources-salary-fresher-salary.html  (MUMBAI VASHI, MUMBAI HIRANANDANI, PUNE, CHENNAI, MYSORE {don’t know about other SBU's} office will get an allowance of 1200 extra every month, MUMBAI POWAI does not get this instead they will get FREE FOOD AND CONVEYANCE ). You will get bachelor's accommodation for 4 months or more in flats near Vashi office, in a place called KOPERKHAIRNE.

Work Environment

Job environment is very good in L&T , you cannot sit On bench like in other companies... but still some projects in SBU's may sometimes keep people on bench but don’t worry you will be soon put to work.

Facilities

The normal job timing is 8.30 am to 6pm.

1) Company Accommodation will be semi- furnished.

2) It will have Tables, chairs, Beds, mattress, bed sheets, pillows, Buckets, Mugs and are normal Flats.

3) Please don’t expect it to be like Infosys 's 5 star accommodation , because in

Mumbai it’s very difficult now a days to get a normal flat for rent.

4) L&T will be providing the best accommodation they could get here for you.

5) With all the above your HRA will be deducted from your Salary also.

Laptops you won’t get it during training. And after wards when your Project in which you work is having a situation like you cannot move without a laptop you may get it.

Infy -15k during training

Wipro -12k during training

CTS - it’s good better than L&T around 18k during training

TCS-its good around 18 k during training

L&T- 17k during training

Accenture- 17.5k during training but they give a lot of extra facilities and money like 10k for relocation and many goodies quite often.

Only problem is with L&T is 2 yr bond for everything else its good. You need to score only 55 pc in their tests but its 65/70 at Infy/Wipro and 60 for Accenture.

Conclusion

A good company to start your career with but certainly not for long term. So you can settle well in l&t and after 2 yrs move on to good company.
