Brand value, Career growth and onsite opportunities? In India Average. In US it has better brand.
How is work environment and how efficient is the communication b/w teams or department? People usually stay late night since dependency exists on onsite. Coordination between team is good.
Work pressure/Work – life balance. work pressure is high. But it depends on how you manage. If you stay late night you get better insight, better visibility
Satisfaction with salary and quality of work. both are good. I suggest to new joinee to bargain more while joining.
What type of work they do: Product development, Services etc. Or if mix of these then what at percent? Services 80% prod 20%
Job security. better (90%)
Some positives and negatives of the company. Positive - job security is high. getting business knowledge is high. Negative - late night stay is common.
Do you recommend your company to others? Yes or No and Why? Yes if he is interested for Telecom services domain, he can get better experience.
Vital Statistics:
Fresher salary: 3 lakhs, 2.5 lakhs +
Normal %age salary hikes: 8K +/ 10% in avg. (except exception)
Bonus avg. you will get 150%

Brand Value -Average
Career growth and onsite opportunities? Growth as far as package is concerned on an average its 15% for below managerial level but onsite opportunities are less and for short term.
How is work environment and how efficient is the communication b/w teams or department? Work environment is really appreciable.
Work pressure/Work - life balance. On an average work load is not that much but it depends on the project so don’t blame me if u get the wrong one :)
Satisfaction with salary and quality of work. Salary and quality of work is above industry level again it depends on personal satiation level
What type of work they do: Product development, Services etc. Or if mix of these then what at percent? Major work they have is Enhancement and maintenance work and a bit of support and development
Job security. No hire and fire policy as such. I haven’t heard of anyone who got fired..
Some positives and negatives of the company.
Positive: work environment, Package
Do you recommend your company to others? Yes or No and Why? Yes, u r welcome to the company to get your headstrong because they need people to use their brain efficiently but wont be a good choice for onsite mongers

TCS - Name itself is sufficient, Thursday, 08 November 2007
Brand Value: Tata is a synonym for trust, integrity and honesty. TCS holds the same image.
Career growth and onsite opportunities? Onsite opportunities are abundant and available to everyone. About 30% of TCS workforce is placed onsite.
How is work environment and how efficient is the communication b/w teams or department? - Modern & pleasant environment in most cases, it is also true sometimes that associates work in a relatively odd atmosphere when there is space crunch. Communication across team/department is efficient and it is possible to access information without much headache. A lot of processes have been digitized to ease communication issues.
Work pressure/Work – life balance. - Life is well balanced.
Satisfaction with salary and quality of work. - Salary is justified per market standards however there is always a scope for salary improvements. Quality of work is primarily dependent on the type od assignment (support, enhancement, development etc)
What type of work they do: Product development, Services etc. Or if mix of these then what at percent? - Both. TCS has roped into product development recently in an aggrassive manner.
Job security. Highly secured job which is what makes it difficult to get out of TCS.
Some positives and negatives of the company.
1. Employee satisfaction can be increased by providing them the A/C bus services.
2. Associates can be made aware of the expectation in the begining of the year rather than in the middle or end.
3. Associates can be freed up more easily by their existing managers when there is no work available.
Do you recommend your company to others? Yes or No and Why?
Yes. My times are well spent in TCS and I wish the same for my friends.

Patni - fresher gets to learn a lot, Thursday, 08 November 2007
(Review on Patni by Parul Jain)
Brand Value There is good brand recall in Market for Patni. I am not aware of any Marketing campaigns or corporate sponsorship programs that PCS conducts to promote their brand. In Mumbai atleast the huge transport fleet operating does a good job creating awareness about Brand PCS as a BIG Company.
Career growth and onsite opportunities? There are many Onsite Oppurtunities presented as it is has business spread all over world. It depends on demand within a project and new projects that the company gets.
Career Growth is linked with attrition as one is loaded with responsibility and ownership pretty early.Their are also multiple tracks available like Technical,Techno Functional,Solution Architect etc which one can identify with and follow.
How is work environment and how efficient is the communication b/w teams or department?
Work Environment depends a lot on manager that one gets so it shall vary on case to case basis. I have had good as well as bad experiences so cannot generalize work environment. Communications between teams is better than between departments but some amount of perseverance pushes things along between departments.
Work pressure/Work – life balance. It depends again Managers/Superiors in the Project. Correct Project Estimations also are important. Wrong estimations or frequent client design change request can add to pressure .
Satisfaction with salary and quality of work. Compensation is not upto Industry standards. Work Quality is generally good as one gets to work on challenging projects rather than get stuck onto repetitive work for years.
What type of work they do: Product development, Services etc. Or if mix of these then what at percent? There is a Product Enables Services vertical which has 25% of workforce and contributes 10% of company revenue. But it is a Service Provider company.
Job security. Job Security is very High. However incompetent a person is he/she is absorbed in some role but never asked to leave.
Some positives and negatives of the company.
Positives :-
1) Early exposure to Roles/Responsibilities .
2) Onsite Oppurtunities Option.
Negatives:-
1) Salary Component
2) Transparency at managerial level.
Do you recommend your company to others? Yes or No and Why?
Would recommend to freshers as one gets to learn a lot in start of career. They would have to compromise on salary front but money shall flow in later as time spent out here is well rewarded in job market.

Oracle - Hyderabad, Thursday, 08 November 2007
Oracle Application Group, which makes products (business suite) like Oracle Finance, HRMS has a development center in Hyderabad. The center started doing work related to Oracle Forms and now is into product development using Oracle Application Framework (a tool which writes code in Java, much like VB does).
We caught up with one Oracle guy to know more about Oracle. The followings are based on input from folks we know in Oracle
Salary: 5/5.5 lakhs per annum. Oracle is one of the top paymasters; it pays extremely well at the fresher level. The salaries are different for computer and non-computer science students. It used to pay higher salary for students from top engineering colleges, now it has stopped visiting some of the top IITs because of higher attrition level of students from these colleges. Oracle Hiring Strategy places strong importance on technical skills, it is based on the simple philosophy that if a student is interested in computer science he would have a strong knowledge of technical concepts and therefore would be happy with the work.
The salary growth is also good at Oracle; it has been giving 6 monthly salary hikes and bonus. Appraisals and career growth depend on the team, there are time-based promotions and in some cases depending on manager and performance of employee promotion can be given before the stipulated time.
Training: Oracle gives a boot camp training for 3 weeks, it may not be very beneficial but you always have reference material and google to solve your technical issues.
Work Environment: Oracle gives flexible work hours to its employees and often the deadlines are based on discretion of employees. Manager to employee communication is average; an employee may not need to talk to his manager on regular basis once he is assigned some work, so does not necessarily develop a very good rapport with the manager. One good thing is Oracle provides all facilities, which the employee needs, he may work from home if he wants, the company sponsors laptop and Internet facility.
Brand Value: Oracle is one of the most known brands in India as well as abroad and enjoys a good will at the college campuses because of the salary it pays.
Work Load: Workload in Oracle is reasonable and in some cases lower then other companies. Pressure can be more sometimes because of the nature of product development work.
Job Security: It did shelve few employees in the past but as the step didn’t go down well with the employees, the company has decided not to fire anyone in India Development Center.
Job Profile: Job profile is not so great, work becomes monotonous after a while, and an employee gets typecasted in a role. Not much technical work is there, the domain is restricted to Oracle Framework, which is of no use outside Oracle. For people in functional roles, like say ‘Oracle Finance’ skill enhancement is more.
Co-worker competence: All cannot be geniuses, its average.
Role of HR: HR is not very active; it is less enthusiastic when it comes to taking initiatives.
Onsite Opportunities: No
Bond for employees: No
Overall: Oracle is great if salary is the only consideration, but not so great when it comes to work quality.

Career growth and onsite opportunities? Growth as far as package is concerned on an average its very good. You can expect a good hike after every six months but onsite opportunities are very less and for short term.
How is work environment and how efficient is the communication b/w teams or department? In terms of Work environment this is not a good place. Company can fire if you are not up to their standards or there is shortage of projects. Also in terms of communication that is not very good place.
Work pressure/Work - life balance. On an average workload is too much, that’s why they are offering hefty packages. A one-year experience guy can be designated as Senior Software Engineer and on an average after two & half years of experience there is big chances that you can be termed as Associate Team Lead.
Satisfaction with salary and quality of work. Salary and quality of work is above industry level again it depends on personal satiation level
What type of work they do: Product development, Services etc. Or if mix of these then what at percent? Major work they have is product development.
Job security. This is the first company where I have seen this type of hire and fire policy. If you are not up to their mark you can be fired any time, also here personal relations are more important for growth, a good relations with HR department can bring you many rewards. This is first company where I have seen a HR can make your life like a hell.
Some positives and negatives of the company.
Positive: Work Standard (because it’s a pure product development so u can expect good work), Package
Negative: Job Security, Personal Relations, No Transparency in the system, Work Environment
Do you recommend your company to others? Yes or No and Why? No, as I have already mentioned after working here for one or two years you can not work anywhere else (On three year experience you will become Associate Team Lead and no company can take you on this designation), work environment is also not good, but still if you want hefty packages you are welcome to Nagarro.

Ivy Comptech - Paymaster, Thursday, 08 November 2007
Brand Value:
Although Parent company Partygaming has got a huge brand value overseas, Ivycomptech is less known company. Actually speaking there are two kind of people one who knows Ivycomptech one who does not know. People who knows it, for them it’s a dream company to work (At least In terms of CTC J).
Career Growth:
After a certain period of time this company would make you overpaid in industry. So in terms of salary the growth curve is real steep. Role wise there is not much change even if you designation/salary changes.
Onsite opportunities :
Very less.If in case I leave this company onsite assignment would be the sole reason for that.
How is work environment and how efficient is the communication b/w teams or department?
A typical product based company where every body looks after end result rather than the path followed for the same. Your Creativity is always appreciated by your Managers. Here Manager/employee relationship is completely different from typical Indian companies. From your manager to CEO e’one is easily approachable.Offcourse we do a lot of parties. Don’t know about department but Ivycomptech is more known as BPO. BPO and Technology are isolated departments. This review is primarily for technology department.
Work pressure/Work – life balance
Except during release you do not have much work pressure. Your normal days start at 10:30 a.m. and gets packed by 7 p.m.. Satisfaction with salary and quality of work. Ivycomptech’s salary is better among the best in industry. Apart from normal salary you get timely bonus, stock options etc. which all count to a huge amount. Even if you get repetitive work, quality is good. You always have option to do something innovative.
What type of work they do: Product development, Services etc. It’s a Product based company
Job security
As per my opinion job security could be only reason of job attrition in ivycomptech. But then If you are confident of yourself, probably this is one of the best place to work in India.
Some positives and negatives of the company
Positive: Salary, work ambience, Co -workers etc.
Negative: Quality Process, job security etc
Do you recommend your company to others? Yes or No and Why?
Yes for experienced people. A big no for freshers.
Vital Statistics:
Fresher’s salary: around 6 lakhs

Infosys - HTMD in particular, Thursday, 08 November 2007
Career growth and onsite opportunities? Depends heavily on Project, Project Manager and IBU. In general, HTMD is a very much-packed IBU. Margins for customers are less, so they expect more from their partners i.e. Infosys. Career growth would not be substantial as inition wise because all the projects are heavy weight mostly 100+ members. So, chances of standing out are rare and work is more or less routine. Onsite opportunity usually depends on project requirements. Usually after 3 years if not given one or possible in near future, then probably pack your bags
How is work environment and how efficient is the communication b/w teams or department? Communication between tracks within same project is pathetic; leave Inter Project or IBU or DC. In some cases intra-project communication is so poor that things are shot back to customer asking them to send it to right track or person, instead of internal reassignment.
Work pressure/Work – life balance. Infosys in general and HTMD in particular are particularly famous for poor balance. 12 hrs a day is normal. Moreover, as most people here are bachelors, so they don’t mind it as well. However, problem starts when someday you dont have work. People will be happy if u stay up to 9 and gossip around rather than going early.
Satisfaction with salary and quality of work. : Infosys is known to be a poor pay master. The average increment in salary or initial salaries are poor. However, people still remember success stories of people who became millionaires out Employee Stock Options Plan. Quality of work shouldn’t be called poor as this is what it is supposed to be. Don’t come here with lots of dreams of exploring rocket science. Here people mainly do mechanic job. You repair/maintain the existing software or add minor values to the software. But this is what it is supposed to be. If you are interested in doing something great either join R&D Division of any company or some product development company
What type of work they do: Product development, Services etc. Or if mix of these then what at percent? Mostly services. Finacle is the only product Infosys has developed until date. But this seems to have been the market leader since then.
Job security: Only time they throw people out is after the training when people fail to clear the test. Else, haven’t heard ppl being thrown out. If you plan some 30-40 year stint at a company, then this is the best place. You would retire as a senior management person for sure.
Some positives and negatives of the company. The strength and weakness of the company is the same its size. Big size has made it competitive, strong and a global brand. Also, Brand Narayan Moorthy has given it lots of publicity. However, same thing its size makes it a bureaucratic and slow. People take months to take a decision and Employee is the most neglected part. Company doesnt even thinks fit to inform its employees that there is a change in guard at top echelon and New CEO have taken charge. Not a company where you can have loyalty. However, when we say so, there have been instances in past (when under NRN Infosys arranged for helicopters to aero lift the relatives of Infoscions in Bhubaneshwar, when it was hit by a disastrous storm in 1999)
Do you recommend your company to others? Yes or No and Why? Depends on your interests and choices with you. Excellent Campuses with all the facilities. But pay is so low that through out your life you wont afford a house of your own. Ultimate Communist approach. Give employees all facilities but no money so that they can own some thing themselves. But definitely better than TCS and Wipro.
