 3G mobile software cos,  Friday, 19 October 2007 Salary: 1.5 to 2.5 fresher and but pay can be as high as 5-6 for 2 year of experience. It all depend upon your background and the hard work, they use to hire guys from C-DAC and other colleges who can start their career without worrying too much about money and do hard work. Definitely its not a paymaster but one can easily bet on the booming telecom sector. The salaries are different for different people, even at fresher level, if u from IIT or NIT u can expect few extra bucks. Now I have come to know that it has stopped hiring guys from top IITs because of higher attrition level.The salary growth is very much around the industry average. Appraisals and career growth depend on the team but in some cases your relation with your manager can fetch u more rewards, which surely I never liked.

Training: It spends very little on training, may be 2-3 weeks or u may be asked to start work from day one, even if u r a fresher.

Onsite Opportunities: Fortuna provides many chances of Onsite visit, depending upon the client location like Sweden, France, Taiwan, England etc. Generally these visits are small ranging 3-8 weeks. But if u have some extraordinary talent and u are in demand then may be in months or year.

Work Environment: It has so called flexible timings, U may have to come early and work till late night depending upon the tight deadlines. They also encourage this by providing free dinner and if u a really workaholic then u will be rewarded with ‘Baskin-Robbins’ ice-cream in night after 10 pm evey day. In the name of facility, it has only dining hall for lunches, dinners and parties.

Brand Value: It is not a much known brand, it is a mid sized company and probably managed only by founders.

Work Load: Work is very monotonous. They use VC++/C language and COM. So U will keep on playing with interfaces and components. Work pressure can be on the higher side depending upon your deadlines.

Job Security: Till now I never came to know of any instance where it has shelved any employees. But I think its quite on the safe side till u perform well.

Job Profile: They prefer CS and ENC guys but its not like that, anyone can do this job after learning few things, Job profile is not so great, work becomes monotonous after a while. The platform is old, as they work on COM (Which is still commonly used in many telecom related developments).

Co-worker competence: The general perception of the level of competence is quite average as very few guys from well know colleges. For fresher hiring they mostly depend upon institution like C-DAC which trains fresh guys.

Role of HR: Its still a small company, so HR employee centric activity is not so common but we used to have parties every one or two months and one combined b-day bash every month.

Employment Bonds: No

Overall: Its average IT company where u can find little bit of everything. But onsite chances really a big attraction. As we Indian are crazy for onsite destinations.

Career Growth: Decent

Onsite Assignments: Very less, even if u do its for a short while

Work Environment/pressure: Incredibly cool, Helps U to pursue things which ur passionate about and also gives u enough time to prepare for competitive exams which u aspire for.

What type of work do they do: Product development

Job Security:150%..Unless its something to do with ethics or misbehaviour

Technology: company proprietary architecture(C++, COM based platform).This is one area where u tend to loose out.. It doesn’t help u if u want to get exposed to various widely used technologies

Do you recommend: Yes if u want to have a peaceful life, prepare for exams, need time for ur personal life
No: If u want to learn widely used technologies.. It tends to make u feel like a frog in the well in that aspect

 A typical service cos,  Friday, 19 October 2007 Brand Value: Yuppie I guess Cognizant as potential advantage in this. It maintains a good brand in India. But its low salary puts it on the other side of this brandL

Career growth and onsite opportunities? Career growth is not very fast. Normally anybody has to wait for 3 years for first promotion as Associate from Programmer Analyst. Onsite opportunities depend on the individual project. But overall I guess in Cognizant onsite opportunities are more than any of the other companies like TCS/Wipro/Infy etc

How is work environment and how efficient is the communication b/w teams or department? Work Environment is not so good. My personal experience is pathetic in this company. In Chennai maximum of the members would be Tamil (this is obvious), but onsite meeting in my team is also in Tamil. So for me the work environment is pathetic.
Communication b/w departments are fine and I appreciate this.

Work pressure/Work – life balance. Depends on project, but overall its fine.

Satisfaction with salary and quality of work. Very very very poor. A simple example is the pay package for 2006 pass outs and 2007 passouts.I am 2006 batch. Our Package was 2.11(includes 20K incentive). Our Juniors were offered 2.50(includes 20K incentive).And our revise package w.e.f May 2007 is 2.60(20K incentive).So we have only 10K annually salary diff from our juniors .At the same time the salary of Infy and TCS for 2006 batch is 2.75L Plus. Very bad quality of work overall.

What type of work they do: Product development, Services etc. Or if mix of these then what at percent? Mostly services.

Job security. 110% unless you are very poor performing (I don’t think anybody will be)

Do you recommend your company to others? Yes or No and Why? A big No for friends. There are so many reasons which are already discussed.

 Works in telecom,  Friday, 19 October 2007 Brand value, Career growth and onsite opportunities?
Good in India, In India only Mumbai BSNL uses its billing and rating software.
Career opportunity is good in software development Hyderabad office and I don’t know about other offices.
Onsite opportunity is good and mainly to US and UK for 3-4 months period.

How is work environment and how efficient is the communication b/w teams or department?
Work environment is not as good as company like Oracle where as i know, they having work from home for everyone and its very flexible, but in Convergys, although it decent but this kind of facility is only limited to top level managers. There is effective communication between team or with manager.

Work pressure/Work – life balance. Its quite good, its very rare when u need to work late night.

Satisfaction with salary and quality of work. Both are good. Freshers salary is around 2.75 lakhs while it will be little higher for guys from well known colleges.

Job security. Till date i don’t think they fired anyone, Its quite good.

Technology/Platform/Language your work. JAVA, Oracle, Mainframe, C, C++, Delphi

Some positives and negatives of the company.
Positive: Management is good
Negative: In some team its frequent manager changes. Also there on average more than 2 manager you have to report. In some team its 3-4, so difficult to create impression on all. Also HR policies is not so great it can be better.
